So this is Cerebral Synergy. My name is Matthew Hart, AKA mr_visible. I am the head admin of this site, and the primary (almost only) submitter of content.
*So what's all this? This is my little foray into the internet. It's nothing specific really, but is mostly about downloads. I've written a few applications that I needed at one stage, and have released them onto the net. Since I started using e107, I've been writing and releasing plugins too.
* Why do you pay to run this site? It's a hobby, like collecting stamps. Except with more agitation and less stamps. It's not too much money, but keeping it updated takes a lot of effort and motivation.
* What's in it for you? I enjoy building something from start to finish and for other people to use it. I also like coding things that are interesting me. I like hearing that people have used my stuff.
* What's in it for me? Everything here is free. Download what you want, just don't link rape me, steal my shit, violate my copyrights, or generally be a dick. If you don't like it, feel free to fuck off.
* OMG your site sucks! Thanks for your well formulated opinion. Now fuck off.
* You used to update more! What happened? University stepped up a notch. I'm in final year now.
* How long you been going for? Nearly 2 years now. Fuck....
* So what sort of hits you get? More than I'd ever expect according to the stats page. You can take that data however you want.
* BFR 3.0! BIMP Pro! Auto Gallery 2.0! OK, OK. I'll get to them. Remember, this isn't my job, i do this for FUN. If it stops being fun, I stop doing it. Nagging me is just going to piss me off than motivate me.
* What's your relationship with e107? Even though I've written nearly 20 plugins for e107 (I think I'm ranked #4 or #5 in top plugin submitters at [link]
), I not really part of the e107 "in" group. I don't think they even really know of me. Nearly everyone else who has written a similar number of plugins for e107 runs an e107 community site. Obviously mine is not. I don't write code for e107 core, nor do I sit idle in the #e107 IRC channel. I'd say I know most of the inner workings of e107, so I can answer most e107 problems, but they are better people out there than I. Ask them.
Have you ever thought of writing your own CMS? Yes. But it's obviously a huge task. e107 is good enough for my uses for the time being.
"Good enough"? Don't get me wrong, I love e107, but it has problems like any other system of its size. Downloads for one, they feel very neglected, with most development work going towards forums, news etc. I guess that's what people want though. Here's my suggestion list:
1. PAD file support. 2. More detailed statistics - average downloads per day, last download time, downloads between dates etc. etc. 3. Bandwidth throttling 4. Different style templates for different categories. 5. Custom fields for different categories.
I must admit that vast improvements have been made in version 0.7.
Ever thought about changing to a different CMS? Yep, Mambo. Heard awesome things. Looks kick ass and gets nothing but good said about it. I'm too tied up in e107 now though. It'd be a major change.
What is with "Cerebral Synergy"? I don't know, sounded good at the time. Nice and generic just in case I had different ideas for the domain in the future. I wanted molotov.com, but it was already taken.
Buying the domain was more of an impulse decision to be honest.
Just think, "Minds working together". Maybe. Whatever. Did I mention we have downloads?
Wow VB. You must think you're such a 1337 coder. That's not a question. Yes, my apps are VB6. No, I am not proud of it. The fact is, I like making useful applications and VB6 still seems to be the most effective way of doing that. It's not a hard language, but if you think that anyone could do some of my apps in "a day or so" I'd invite you try. App design for public release is much harder than you think, you have to keep everyone happy and fix bugs as they arise. It takes a while until the app is virtually bug free. If I wrote bigger applications, it'd be in C++ MFC or something, but generally:
C - Too much of a fuck around. I don't have that much time! C++/MFC - Too freaking annoying VB.NET - Everyone needs the framework. It's still VB. C# - Slow and it's also .NET. Delphi - LOL
I have a problem with x application/plugin. What do I do? If it's Auto Gallery, post the problem in the forum. Otherwise use the submit feedback feature to contact me. Please check your English, I really can't be fucked helping you if I can't decode your sentences. Full stops people, full stops.
You play ET? What's your nickname? Murdoc. I'm not very good. Just play for fun.
